At last something interesting and beautiful to comment upon.  Something for everyone from ’believers, to cultural tourists, to architects, to anyone with a soul.”  A new Convent , created by Renzo Piano, has been hidden in a French hillside below Le Corbusier’s famous chapel and is described as ’spare, calm and quietly masterful.  Lucky Nuns”.

This article is beautiful and calming itself.  To Sister Brigitte of the Poor Claire Order, Piano said

‘I can’t help you with prayer, but perhaps I can help with silence and a little joy.’

A new addition to my wish list for visits to Sacred Spaces and Places – planning has already begunYvonne

Wow!  Just when you think the world has dug up all it’s treasures.   India has just discovered an astonishing hoard of gold and precious jewellery offerings worth AT LEAST £12 BILLION in the 17th century vaults of 10th century+ temple,  The Padmanabha Swamy Temple, India.  Will they manage to protect and preserve it?  Reports are that the hoard will remain secure and preserved in situ.  As there’s no photography in sacred space, will the world ever get to see it?  If so, look out for boost in tourism and no doubt  jobs in security.  Yet to come:  the opening of a second vault later this week………….

Princess Gouri Lakshmi Bai….said it was not proper to describe the findings in the chambers as treasure.
“It is offerings made by the Lord’s devotees and hence it is his wealth. They are not treasures”

The Hindu temple is now claimed to be the richest in India.

Goodness how time flies !

Gray's Court

Good News.  The Exhibition of York Open Studios Artists has been extended by its host, Grays Court until Tuesday 3 May…with a further possibility of some works remaining beyond that, such has been the response to Local Artists’ work.

Grays Court is a special place, a hidden treasure  – unknow even to many York residents who are shocked they’ve never discovered it before.  An amazing ‘country house’ feel, hidden behind the Minster and within the City Walls.  Afternoon Teas and dining – or just wander around the art exhibits.  See for yourself – daily 10-6, Grays Court recently announced later hours on Saturday and Sundays.

Look out for my work, hung in an amazing place where light streams in through bay windows overlooking the gardens and City Walls.  Thank you Grays Court for such a wonderful venue.

Enjoy the Art.  Enjoy Grays Court.

Will be up soon.  Please add your email to subscribe and receive them automatically later this week, or call back soon :)

Delighted by small red dot

Round 1:  Goodness what a fabulous weekend – so many interested and enthusiastic people.  Was delighted when amongst works sold, my favourite metal print received a shiny red dot – though expect it will be an emotional event delivering it personally once ‘YOS’ ends.  Still… one HAS TO  let go!   Few days to recover before …

Round Two | York Open Studios
April 8-10th:
Fri 6-9pm  |  Sat 10-6pm    Sun 11-5pm
after that….wait another whole year!

Look forward to seeing you at this final celebration weekend for
York Open Studios’ 10th Anniversary Artists
1st floor, Bar Lane Studios York.

Yvonne

Am nervously excited about the approaching 10th Anniversary of York Open Studios.

Have you seen the Taster Exhibition yet, at the fabulous Grays Court  (tucked secretly away behind York Minster).  I helped set up part of the Exhibition so can tell you it’s definitely one not to be missed on your journeys across the City!

If you want to see just how fabulous my printing onto metal works – this is the place to see it.  Light floods in from the bay window overlooking the garden and Bar Walls, illuminating the brushed metal print.  I’m working on just how to photograph and capture this elusive effect for  the web and blog – tricky but … watch this space.

More info coming soon.  Put the dates in your diary now !
